The ‘Lectric Law Library Lay People’s Law Lounge

Quite a mouthful. Just the name should win some kind of award for alliteration. Don’t be fooled, though. When it comes to providing free legal information, this site is very serious.  I highly recommend that you check it out, and pay special attention to the Lay People’s Law Lounge. As the name suggests, it is filled with easily accessible information written for non-lawyers. The fact that it’s all delivered in a light-hearted style makes it all the better.

The first thing you should do is check out the bizarre caption under the photo of Richard Nixon and Elvis Presley. That will immediately give you an idea of what you’re in store for. When you’re not laughing at witty remarks, you can read articles about the court system and specific areas of law. There is a whole section entitled “Dealing With The Lawyer System.” Here lawyer ethics, billing practices, and free legal services for the poor, among other stuff, is addressed in an easily accessible way.

The site has legal forms, research material, and even a lawyer directory. The Site is also home to the Lectric Law Lexicon, described as the “Net’s Best Law Dictionary with Thousands of Definitions & Explanations of Legal Terms, Phrases & Concepts.”
